Singer Kate McGarrigle Dies at 63

Folk singer and songwriter Kate McGarrigle has died of cancer in Canada, according to published reports. She was 63.

She first gained fame when performing with her sister, Anna, as the McGarrigle sisters. The pair also penned many hit songs, including “Heart Like a Wheel,” which were covered by artists including Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, and Judy Collins.

In recent years, McGarrigle toured with her family, including her children, the singers Rufus Wainwright and Martha Wainwright, and her ex-husband, Loudon Wainwright III.

She is also survived by her sister, Jane.
