Playwright Sam Shepard was in attendance for the opening night of his Ages of the Moon, which made its American premiere at the Atlantic Theatre Company’s Linda Gross Theater on Wednesday, January 27. The show’s run has now been extended until March 21.

The Abbey Theatre production is helmed by Jimmy Fay, and reunites original stars Stephen Rea and Sean McGinley. In the play, Byron (McGinley) and Ames (Rea) are old friends re-united by mutual desperation. Over bourbon on ice, they sit, reflect, and bicker until fifty years of love, friendship, and rivalry are put to the test at the barrel of a gun.

The opening night party was held at Moran’s Restaurant, where Fay and Shepard were also joined by Abbey Theatre artistic director Fiach MacConghail and Atlantic artistic director Neil Pepe.
