NAATCO and Theatre Mitu to Present Newly Retitled A Play on War

The National Asian American Theatre Company (NAATCO) and Theatre Mitu will present Jenny Connell and Rubén Polendo’s A Play on War, formerly titled Mamá Coraje: A War Play, at the Connelly Theater February 12-March 6, with an official opening on February 16. Polendo will direct.

Inspired by Bertolt Brecht’s Mother Courage and Her Children, the play incorporates abstractions of musical theater, Arabic clowning, and Peking opera to create a ferocious comedy about a war-torn landscape populated by characters on bicycles, all desperate to survive.

As previously announced, the all-Asian-American cast will feature Mia Katigbak, Jon Norman Schneider, Nikki Calonge, Orville Mendoza, Marcus Ho, Brian Hirono, Nathan Elam, and Bushra Laskar. The creative team will include Justin Nestor (set design), Kate Ashton (lighting design), Candida K. Nichols (costume design), and Adam Cochran (original compositions and live music).
