Sam Mendes to Direct Preacher Film
Sam Mendes will direct the film adaptation of the comic book series, Preacher for Columbia Pictures, according to a report in Variety.
The film is based on the Eisner Award-winning series by writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon. It centers on a preacher who embarks on a cross-country journey to battle the otherworldly evil that decimated his small Texas town. Variety also reports that the screenplay will be adapted by John August, who penned Big Fish.
Mendes is currently represented on the New York stage by The Cherry Orchard at BAM, and the soon-to-open The Winter’s Tale. He received a Tony nomination for his direction of Cabaret and an Oscar for directing American Beauty.
