Javier Muñoz to Succeed Lin-Manuel Miranda in In the Heights

Javier Muñoz will take over the role of Usnavi in the Broadway production of In the Heights, currently playing the Richard Rodgers Theatre, beginning February 16. He will succeed original star Lin-Manuel Miranda, whose final performance will be February 15.

The show is directed by Thomas Kail, with choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler. Featuring music and lyrics by Miranda, and a book by Quiara Alegría Hudes, In the Heights is about a vibrant and tight-knit community at the top of the island of Manhattan, and focuses on the hopes and dreams of three generations as they struggle to forge an identity in a neighborhood on the brink of transition.

Muñoz was part of the company’s original ensemble, and understudied the part of Usnavi. Additional stage credits include The Porch and All Is Love.

The principal cast also features Andréa Burns, Janet Dacal, Robin De Jesús, Mandy Gonzalez, Marcy Harriell, Christopher Jackson, Priscilla Lopez, Olga Merediz, Javier Muñoz, Rick Négron and Seth Stewart. The cast also includes Tony Chiroldes, Noemi Del Rio, Rosie Lani Fiedelman, Marcus Paul James, Nina Lafarga, Doreen Montalvo, Krysta Rodriguez, Eliseo Román, Luis Salgado, Shaun Taylor-Corbett, Rickey Tripp, Michael Balderrama, Blanca Camacho, Joshua Henry, Stephanie Klemons, Jose Luis Lopez, Jon Rua and Elise Santora.
