On Tuesday night, G’Day USA presented Australia Plays Broadway at Carnegie Hall, a showcase of Australian artists that is part of Australia Week 2009. Grammy Award-winning superstar Olivia Newton-John was one of the night’s many talented performers.
Simon Burke was the official host, introducing each performance and joining in a few himself.
The talented David Campbell came with his new wife Lisa and performed throughout the night, including “You’re Nothing without Me” from City of Angels.
Famed singer Jimmy Barnes — who is Campbell’s father — was on hand to sing the R&B classic “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling.”
Alexander Lewis gave his rendition of “Largo al Factotum” from The Barber of Seville with a grand entrance from the back of the hall.
The venerable Robyn Nevins was the speaker for Aaron Copeland’s Lincoln Portrait with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, who played throughout the evening.

On Wednesday, our cameras got a sneak peak at The Drama League’s 25th Annual Gala, A Musical Celebration of Broadway, to be held on February 2. Lee Roy Reams graced the afternoon with “I Am What I Am,” from La Cage Aux Folles.
Oscar winner Keith Carradine sang “Favorite Son” from his Broadway hit The Will Rogers Follies, alongside cast members Wendy Waring and Sally Mae Dunn, who will also be taking part in the benefit.
Betsy Craig and Mark Waldrop sang “We Are What We Are” from La Cage Aux Folles with Jan Leigh Herndon.
Tony winner Cady Huffman — who will be doing the choreography for the evening — coerced Herndon into joining her for a tap dance interlude.
The hilarious Jackie Hoffman and Julie Halston will also be on hand for the benefit.
For the last few months, Broadway Kids Care has been knitting scarves for the poor and the residents of the Lillian Booth Actor’s Home. Here, Laurissa Romain (South Pacific), Trevor Braun (The Little Mermaid), and Nia Imani Hunter (The Lion King) show off a few of their creations.
