Ted Sperling to Head Public Theater’s Musical Theater Initiative

Ted Sperling has been appointed Director of The Musical Theater Initiative for the Public Theater. In a statement, The Public’s artistic director, Oskar Eustis, says that Sperling “will be of inestimable value in helping to expand and formalize the Public’s development of new musicals for our time.”

Sperling received Tony and Drama Desk Awards for his orchestrations of The Light in the Piazza, for which he was also music director. Later this season, he will be the music director for South Pacific at Lincoln Center. His other Broadway credits include Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Full Monty, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and Kiss of the Spider Woman.

He has previously worked at the Public on the productions of Romance in Hard Times, Saturn Returns, and See What I Wanna See.
