Sweeney Todd, Johnny Depp Win Golden Globe Awards

Tim Burton’s film version of the Stephen Sondheim-Hugh Wheeler musical Sweeney Todd was named Best Film, Comedy or Musical, at the 65th Annual Golden Globe Awards, given by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, in Los Angeles on Sunday, January 13. In addition, Johnny Depp was named Best Actor, Comedy or Musical, for playing the title role in the film.

Among the evening’s other acting winners were Daniel Day-Lewis for There Will Be Blood, Marion Cottilard for La Vie En Rose, Julie Christie for Away from Her, and Cate Blanchett for I’m Not There. Playwright Ethan Coen and brother Joel won Best Screenplay for No Country for Old Men.

On the television front, acting winners included Glenn Close (Damages), Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Queen Latifah (Life Support), Jeremy Piven (Entourage), and Jim Broadbent and Samantha Morton (Longford).
