Berman, Kind, Worsham Join Cast of NYCO’s Candide

Lielle Berman and Lauren Worsham will share the role of Cunegonde and Richard Kind will play Voltaire/Dr. Pangloss in the New York City Opera’s production of Candide, April 8-20. As previously announced, Daniel Reichard will plat the title role and Judy Blazer will play the Old Lady. The Harold Prince production, a mainstay of the company, will be directed by Arthur Massella, with choreography by Patricia Birch.

Based on the novella by Voltaire, Candide features music by Leonard Bernstein, a book by Hugh Wheeler, and lyrics by Richard Wilbur, with additional lyrics by Bernstein, John Latouche, and Stephen Sondheim. The opera will be conducted by George Manahan and will feature sets by Clarke Dunham, costumes by Judith Dolan, lighting by Ken Billington, and sound by Abe Jacob.

Berman’s opera credits include Cendrillon, Gianni Sccicchi and Cosi fan tutte. Kind has starred on Broadway in Sly Fox, The Producers, and The Tale of the Allergists Wife. Worsham recently appeared as Olive in the national tour of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

Reichard portrayed Bob Gaudio in Jersey Boys, for which he received a Tony Award nomination. His other New York stage credits include Radiant Baby, The Thing About Men, and Forbidden Broadway.Blazer’s Broadway credits include LoveMusik, Titanic, and Me and My Girl.
