Michael Greif will direct the The Public Theater’s Shakespeare in the Park production of Romeo & Juliet, which will have a five-week run at the Delacorte Theatre in Central Park, June 5-July 8.

Greif is currently represented on Broadway by Grey Gardens and Rent. His previous directing credits for the Public include 365 Days/365 Plays, Satellites, Dogeaters, and Pericles.

Romeo & Juliet was last produced by The Public in 1988, with Cynthia Nixon and Peter MacNicol in the leads. That production was directed by Les Waters.

The second show of the 2007 Shakespeare in the Park season will be announced at a later date.
