Hudson, Mirren, Murphy, Nighy, Streep, et al. Win Golden Globe Awards

The 64th Annual Golden Globe Awards were bestowed on January 15 by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.

Dreamgirls won for Best Picture (Musical or Comedy) and also picked up trophies for Best Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress for Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Hudson.

Meryl Streep was named Best Actress in a Film (Musical or Comedy) for The Devil Wears Prada. Helen Mirren won two Golden Globes, as Best Actress in a Film (Drama) for her work on the film The Queen and as Best Actress in a Television Movie or Miniseries for HBO’s Elizabeth I. (In the latter category, she beat herself, since she was also nominated for Prime Suspect.) In addition, playwright Peter Morgan won Best Screenplay for The Queen.

On the television front, Bill Nighy was named Best Actor in a Movie or Miniseries for Gideon’s Daughter and Jeremy Irons won Best Supporting Actor for Elizabeth I. Kyra Sedgwick was named Best Actress in a TV Drama for The Closer; while.Alec Baldwin was named Best Actor in a Comedy Series for 30 Rock.

Other winners included Babel for Best Picture (Drama); Letters From Iwo Jima (Best Foreign Language Film), and Martin Scorsese for Best Director for The Departed.
