The critically acclaimed Off-Broadway production of Gutenberg! The Musical!, starring Christopher Fitzgerald and Jeremy Shamos, will re-open at The Actors’ Playhouse (100 Seventh Avenue) on January 16 for a 10-week run.

In the musical spoof, co-written by Anthony King and Scott Brown, two aspiring playwrights perform a backers’ audition of their new project: a musical about Johann Gutenberg, inventor of the printing press. The show played at 59E59 Theatres in December and was a hit at the recent New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF).

The production is directed by Alex Timbers and also features Ryan Karels. The creative team includes T.O. Sterett (musical direction and arrangements), Emily Rebholz (costumes), and Tyler Micoleau (lighting).

Fitzgerald is a two-time Drama Desk Award nominee whose New York stage credits include Wicked, Amour, Saturday Night, and Fully Committed. Shamos has starred on Broadway in The Rivals and Reckless; he has been seen Off-Broadway in such shows as Engaged (for which he won an Obie Award), Miss Witherspoon, and The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged. The pair previously starred together Off-Broadway in Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme.
