Daniel Sullivan to Receive Mr. Abbott Award

Director Daniel Sullivan will receive the 2007 Mr. Abbott Award for lifetime achievement in the American theater from the Society of Stage Directors and Choregraphers on Monday, March 26. The award will be bestowed in an invitation-only ceremony at Lincoln Center’s Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse, co-hosted by Lincoln Center Theater’s André Bishop.

Sullivan won a Tony Award for his direction of Proof and was nominated for his work on Rabbit Hole, Morning’s at Seven, The Sisters Rosensweig, Conversations With My Father, and The Heidi Chronicles. He received a Drama Desk nomination for Stuff Happens and a Drama Desk Award in 1972 for Suggs.

In addition, Sullivan directed more than 60 productions at the Seattle Repertory Theater, of which company he was the artistic director from 1984 through 1997. He will next be represented on Broadway by the Roundabout Theatre Company’s revival of Prelude to a Kiss, starring John Mahoney. Next season, he will serve as acting artistic director of Manhattan Theatre Club during Lynne Meadow’s sabbatical.

Previous recepients of the Mr. Abbott award include Harold Prince, Jack O’Brien, Lloyd Richards, Kathleen Marshall, Rob Marshall, and Susan Stroman.
