Curry, Langella, Sheen, Turner, et al. Earn 2007 Olivier Award Nominations

Nominations for the 2007 Olivier Awards, honoring the best of London theater, have been announced.

Monty Python’s Spamalot received seven nominations, including Best New Musical and Best Actor for Tim Curry. That show’s competitors in the Best Musical category is Avenue Q, Porgy and Bess, and Caroline, or Change, which also earned Tonya Pinkins a Best Actress in a Musical Nomination.

The revival of Sunday in the Park With George received six nominations, including Best Musical Production. Its competitors include the revivals of Cabaret, Evita, and The Sound of Music.

On the dramatic front, Tom Stoppard’s Rock ‘n’ Roll received four nominations, including Best New Play, Best Actor for Rufus Sewell, and Best Actress for Sinead Cusack. Frank Langella and Michael Sheen of the Broadway-bound Frost/Nixon both received Best Actor nominations, while the play itself got a Best New Play nod.

Eve Best and Colm Meaney of the Broadway-bound A Moon for the Misbegotten earned nominations, and Kathleen Turner nabbed a Best Actress nom for Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Both productions also earned nominatons for Best Revival.
