Broadway, concert, and cabaret veteran Barbara Cook will receive the Medal of Honor from the National Arts Club at a special black-tie dinner on Thursday, January 11.

Cook made her Broadway debut in Flahooley and went on to star in such shows as Plain and Fancy, Candide, The Gay Life, She Loves Me, and The Grass Harp. She won the Tony Award for her work as Marian in The Music Man. In addition, Cook starred in the City Center productions of The King and I and Carousel and the New York State Theatre’s production of Showboat.

Cook has performed frequently in the world’s major concert halls and cabaret venues, including a recent mini-tour with Audra McDonald. Last year, she was the first female pop singer to be presented by the Metropolitan Opera in a solo concert at the opera house.
