Hoffman, Huffman, Parker, Nixon, Strathairn, et al. Get SAG Award Nominations

The accolades keep coming for stage stars such as Felicity Huffman, Philip Seymour Hoffman, David Strathairn, Mary-Louise Parker and Cynthia Nixon, all of whom received nominations today for the 12th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, which will be given out in Los Angeles on January 29.

Huffman, a longtime member of the Atlantic Theater Company, pulled off nods for the film TransAmerica and the TV series Desperate Housewives. In the Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role (Film) category, her competition includes Dame Judi Dench (for Mrs. Henderson Presents). Among her competition for Outstanding Performance by an Female Actor in a Comedy Series is Parker (for Showtime’s Weeds) and Megan Mullally (for Will and Grace). The Desperate Housewives ensemble, which also includes Tony Award winner Roger Bart, also received a nomination.

Hoffman and Strathairn were both recognized in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in Leading Role (Film) category for their respective work in Capote and Good Night, and Good Luck. Hoffman’s co-star Catherine Keener, who starred in the Signature Theatre Company production of Burn This, received a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role (Film) as did fellow stage veterans Frances McDormand (for North Country), Rachel Weisz (for The Constant Gardener), and Michelle Williams (for Brokeback Mountain).

Recent Tony Award nominee Alan Alda got nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in A Drama Series for The West Wing; the show’s ensemble, which includes Broadway veterans Kristin Chenoweth, Alison Janney, and Jimmy Smits, also got recognized. Its competition includes the casts of Lost (including Dog Sees Good star Ian Somerhalder) and Six Feet Under, which features stage vets Frances Conroy, Michael C. Hall, Peter Krause, and Lauren Ambrose, who’s set to star this spring in the Lincoln Center Theatre production of Awake and Sing!

In the television movie/miniseries categories, SAG nominations were given to stage veterans Cynthia Nixon and Kenneth Brannagh (for Warm Springs), Christopher Plummer (for Our Fathers), S. Epatha Merkerson (for Lackawanna Blues), and Ed Harris, Paul Newman, and Joanne Woodward (for Empire Falls).
