The executive committee of the Cabaret Artists Association of Texas has announced that it has been officially certified by the state.

According to the organization’s mission statement, it will “promote the awareness and advancement of cabaret performance as an art form in the state of Texas.” CAA hopes to develop new audiences and encourage the media to cover the state’s cabaret scene; the association is modeled after the Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs (MAC).

CAA will be run entirely by volunteers and membership will be open to anyone who is actively engaged in the live entertainment industry. A membership fee of $25 per year will include such benefits as ticket discounts, links to performer and venue information from the website cabtex.org (which has not yet been established), CD listings, a monthly newsletter, educational events, and more.

“It will be nice to have an organization that can help publicize these talented performers and where they can be seen all across the state,” says charter member Tom Grounds. “We hope to work with many of the theaters in adding cabaret performances during their dark nights or between productions to build the community across the entire state, giving performers other venues [in which the perform] away from their home city.”
