American National Theatre Facility Model Presented

On Monday, January 26, the American National Theatre presented an architectural model of its proposed Lower Manhattan facility. The goal of the ANT is to provide a New York City venue for presentation of new plays and musicals from all over America.

The facility was designed in a collaboration between Richard Olcott of Polshek Partnership Architects and Steve Friedlander of Auerbach.Pollock.Friedlander. It will house a 1,000-seat proscenium theater, a 700-seat thrust theater, and a 400-seat black box theater. The plans were designed to be incorporated into the arts center at the World Trade Center site but may easily be adapted for other locations if necessary.

The facility will include a restaurant, a gift shop, and a room for audio-visual presentations that will provide background on the productions seen at the ANT and the artists and cities from which they originated. For more information, visit the website www.americannationaltheatre.org.
