Deadline Extended for Submissions for the 2003 Midtown International Theatre Festival

John Chatterton, executive producer of the upcoming Fourth Annual Midtown International Theatre Festival (MITF), has announced that the deadline for script submissions has been extended one month, from January 15 to February 15.

According to Chatterton, the change was made to accomodate requests for additional time and to allow scripts to arrive at the proper destination following the move of the MITF offices from Greenwich Village to midtown Manhattan. “Besides,” says Chatterton, “since we plan on presenting some 30 different shows in two brand new theatres this July, the more product available for consideration, the better!” The venue for this year’s festival is the Abingdon Theatre Arts Complex, located at 316 West 36th Street. For more information, visit the Abingdon web site.

The MITF provides the venue, staff, public relations, advertising, and other services but does not produce the festival plays itself; rather, they are mounted by individual producers. Complete details on this arrangement may be found on the MITF website: Go to the Off-Off-Broadway Review website, www.oobr.com and click on the banner ad reading “Theatre Is Cool In July.”

The Festival is seeking submissions of any type of theatrical entertainment — play, musical, or anything in between. To submit a work, one should obtain an application from the MITF website, complete it, and mail it along with the script and a $30 reading fee by February 15 to The Midtown International Theatre Festival, 347 West 36th Street, #1204, New York, NY 10018.

Scripts not chosen for production in the 2003 Festival are still eligible for consideration as backup productions in this festival, for full production in future festivals, or to be included in the MITF reading series.
