Comprised of Cuba's greatest and most prominent musicians, the Havana Cuba All-Stars band makes its debut tour of the U.S. with a program of songs and music celebrating the extraordinary musical legacy of Cuba. Drawing inspiration from traditional Cuban Son—a genre which later gave way to salsa—the program's infectious melodies and rhythms are a rich product of the cultural diversity of the Cuban people. This exciting band brings Cuban vibe to life with rhythmic drums and castanets, wailing trumpets, masterful acoustic guitar, and amazing vocals.
For the seven young men in the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, 'brotherhood' is literal: they're all sons of jazz legend Phil Cohran. Raised on Chicago's South Side, the boys joined the family band at age four, learning to play the trumpet, tuba, drums, French horn, cornet, and trombone. Now young men in their 20s and 30s, they make transcendent music that ties currents from jazz and funk to soul and hip-hop. Together they have toured six continents, playing with Prince and Mos Def, among others. Their song, "War" was featured in the hit movie, The Hunger Games.
Jay and The Americans, started by four teenage boys 50 years ago, is one of the lasting success stories in Rock 'n Roll history. Few bands have ever reached the musical heights of Jay and The Americans. From 1962 to 1971, this group charted an amazing twelve Top Ten records. In 2002, they were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, placing them among the greatest vocal groups in Rock 'n Roll history. Their first recording was Tonight from the musical West Side Story. Their breakout hit song was She Cried. The group's next chart hit was Only In America, followed by top-ten hits Come A Little Bit Closer, Cara Mia, and This Magic Moment. These songs and many others are featured in their show, along with stories of the artists and writers who influenced this 1960s super-group.
