The Women of Padilla begins performances tonight at Two River Theater. Ken Rus Schmoll directs.

The Women of Padilla tells the story of eight women married to eight brothers, all of whom are away fighting an unnamed war that seems as if it has been going on for years and will continue for many more. While each waits for news of her husband’s fate, they carry on, cook, laugh, weep, and fight. Tony Meneses' play is inspired by the heightened lyricism of playwright and poet Federico García Lorca.

The cast includes Karina Arroyave (Blanca), Helen Cespedes (Lucha), Jacqueline Correa (Mari), Daniella De Jesús (Fidela), Paloma Guzmán (Alejandra), Keren Lugo (Marta), Elizabeth Ramos (Cristina), and Jeanine Serralles (Carmen).

The creative team features Arnulfo Maldonado (scenic design), Oana Botez (costume design), Yuki Nakase (lighting design), and Jane Shaw (sound design). Puppet design is by James Ortiz with the puppet direction from Will Gallacher. The production stage manager is Alison Hassman.

Performances continue through April 30.
