Lives of Reason Set to Make World Premiere
Lives of Reason begins performances tonight at Two River Theater.
The difficulties of intellectual life are brought to the forefront in this play, which pulls audiences into the world of academia. Set at an English Department faculty party, the show exposes what happens when one woman’s secret passions explode and her authentic self is revealed.
Jonathan Fox directs the play, which was cowritten by Robert Rechnitz and Kenneth Stunkel. The cast features Matthew Lieff Christian, Philip Goodwin, Maurice Jones, Mairin Lee, Patrick Monaghan, William Parry, Peter Rini, Jay Russell, Maureen Silliman, and John C. Vennema.
"Robert Rechnitz and Kenneth Stunkel are late-career playwrights who spent much of their professional lives as professors at Monmouth University, which is where Bob — with his wife Joan — founded Two River Theater 22 years ago," says artistic director John Dias. "It has been moving for us to witness both men, who began their careers as artists — Bob as an actor, Ken as a dancer — embark on a new creative endeavor as co-writers of this play."
The creative team includes Charlie Corcoran (set design), Karen Perry (costume design), Gina Scherr (lighting design), Jane Shaw (sound design), and J. Steven White (fight director).
Performances will run through February 7.
