Michael Iannucci will play the title character in Robert Brustein’s adaptation of Isaac Bashevis Singer’s Shlemiel the First, to run January 16-24 at Montclair State University‘s Alexander Kasser Theater. David Gordon will direct and choreograph the production, which features a score by composer Hankus Netsky and lyricist Arnold Weinstein.

The musical focuses on a group of self-proclaimed wise men, each less wise than the next, who order Shlemiel to leave the imaginary town of Chelm to travel the world spreading their ill-informed wisdom.

The company will also feature Bob Ader (Dopey Petzel), Jeff Brooks (Gronam Ox), Darryl Winslow (Moishe Pipik), Jesse Means (Zeinvel Schmeckel), Alice Playten (Tryna Ritza), David Skeist as (Mendel Shmendrick), and Kristine Zbornik (Yenta Pesha).
