Suzzanne Douglas to Star in Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill at Bickford Theatre

Suzzanne Douglas will star as Billie Holiday in Lanie Robertson’s Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill at the Bickford Theatre in New Jersey, January 22-February 15. Ted Sod will direct.

Set in a seedy neighborhood bar in South Philadelphia in 1959, the show features Lady Day as she discovers and recounts her life, loves and adventures, weaving her story into more than a dozen classics including “God Bless The Child,” “When A Woman Loves A Man,” “Where Our Love Has Gone,” “Ain’t Nobody’s Business If I Do,” and “Strange Fruit.”

Music director Alva Nelson will appear as Jimmy Powers. The creative team will include John McDermott (set), Raquel Davis (lighting), Bettina Bierly (costumes), and Alison Goessling (sound).

Douglas has appeared on Broadway in The Threepenny Opera, Into The Woods, and The Tap Dance Kid. Additional credits include Sophisticated Ladies, A Grand Night For Singing, and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. Her film and TV credits include Taps, How Stella Got Her Groove Back, The Parent ‘Hood, and Sounder.
