New Jersey's George Street Playhouse will celebrate its 40th season with a special gala themed around its current revival of Thornton Wilder's Our Town on Sunday, May 5, at The Heldrich.

Located in New Brunswick, the Playhouse will honor the town and Mayor James Cahill with the Thomas H. Kean Arts Advocacy Award. Additionally, Tony-winning playwright Joe DiPietro, who has seen three of his plays produced at George Street, will be honored as a Playhouse Distinguished Artist. The benefit cochairs are Gabriella and Stephen M. Vajtay, with Kenneth M. Fisher Jr. and Lora Tremayne serving as commemorative journal chairpersons.

The evening will also include a silent auction, offering vacation trips, home furnishings, tickets to Broadway shows, and sports venues. Performers for the evening's cabaret and concert section will be announced in the coming weeks.

The black-tie affair begins with cocktails at 5pm, with dinner and cabaret performance to follow. Individual tickets and tables of 10 are available by calling Steven Barry at 732-846-2895, ext. 144.

Our Town, starring four-time Tony-winner Boyd Gaines, begins performances April 22.
