Written between 1929 and 1931, Mourning Becomes Electra is critically regarded as one of the greatest plays from legendary Connecticut playwright Eugene O'Neill. Inspired by the classic Greek tragedy by Aeschylus, O'Neill transplants the Oresteia into late-ninteenth century New England, just as the Civil War ends. However, the end of that brutal war marks the onset of new dangers for the aristocratic Mannon family, as the clan is torn apart by murder, betrayal and revenge.
