WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
As Lillian (Lois Smith) nears a milestone birthday, she and her family put the finishing touches on the much-anticipated party at which she'll make her singing debut. There's a speech to be written, a band to rehearse and, of course, an outfit to be chosen. But then Lil's husband Charlie's (David Margulies) secret gets out - the birthday surprise that he hoped would make her day may instead tear their lives apart. In Darci Picoult's playful and poignant new play, it is the power of love that stands the test of aging.

Picoult proves herself adept at ratcheting up the anxiety level. Gasps arise with every fresh misstep. Soon, we're feeling as conflicted and protective as the family members positioned in the front ranks of disaster.
Octogenarians Charlie (Margulies) and Lil (the equally superb Lois Smith) are enjoying their 65th year of marriage. The opening scene -- which involves pudding and Redd[...]
