WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Tony Award-winning actor Ruben Santiago-Hudson wrote his first play, Lackawanna Blues, as a tribute to Miss Rachel Crosby, the woman who raised him under unconventional circumstances in his hometown of Lackawanna, New York. Abandoned by his mother, Santiago-Hudson grew up in the boarding house with the tough, yet compassionate Miss Rachel-- affectionately known as "Nanny"-- and a crowd of singular lost souls and downhearted dreamers who found solace under her roof. Accompanied by blues composer and guitarist Bill Sims, Jr., Santiago-Hudson embodies over 20 characters as he recreates his childhood in this music-filled one-man play.
