Yale Repertory Theatre has announced casting for A Doctor in Spite of Himself, adapted by Christopher Bayes and Steven Epp. Bayes will direct this co-production with Berkeley Repertory theatre, which will run November 26-December 17, with an opening on December 2.

In the play, the spirited Martine exacts revenge on her scoundrel of a husband, Sganarelle, by convincing the town that he’s the best doctor around and that he can cure any ailment. But the trickster turns the tables on his wife — and everyone else — with his own definition of “in sickness and in health.”

The cast will include Julie Briskman, Liam Craig, Steven Epp, Renata Friedman, Allen Gilmore, Chivas Michael, Jacob Ming Trent, and Justine Williams. Greg Powers and Robertson Witmer will be the musicians.

The production will feature original compositions and music direction by Aaron Halva, sets by Matt Saunders, costumes by Kristin Fiebig, lighting by Yi Zhao, and sound by Ken Goodwin.
