WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

When The Persecution and Assassanation of Jean-Paul Marat as Performed by the Inmates of the Asylum of Charenton under the Direction of the Marquis de Sade opened in 1964, audiences were shocked by its wild arguments, militant music, and frenzied violence. Set in a 18th-century insane asylum, the infamous Marquis de Sade and the revolutionary Jean Marat hold high debate of The Individual versus The Collective. From their passionate speeches to the deranged inmates banging pots and pans in "The Copulation Song," this show is unpredictable, disturbing and raucous. This production is for mature audiences only and may include partial nudity and violence. Includes fog and haze effects. Note: The first and final Sunday performances are at 2pm.
