Tracie Bennett, Rick Shiomi Among Winners of 2012 Ivey Awards

The eighth annual Ivey Awards, which honor professional Twin Cities theater companies, were presented September 24 at the Historic State Theatre in downtown Minneapolis.

Rick Shiomi, Artistic Director of Mu Performing Arts, was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award, and performer, director, and theater creator Isabel Nelson received the Emerging Artist Award.

Tracie Bennett was among the acting winners for her portrayal of Judy Garland in End of the Rainbow — which she went on to play on Broadway following the run of the show at the Guthrie.

In addition, four productions and five more individuals were also recognized with 2012 Iveys, including The Compleat Female Stage Beauty at Walking Shadow Theatre Company, Spring Awakening at Theatre Latte Da, The Ballad of the Pale Fisherman at Illusion Theate, and Julius Caesar at Theatre Unbound as well as actors Hugh Kennedy and Jody Briskey; lighting designer Barry Browning; director Miriam Monasch; and musical director Joe Vass.
