Minneapolis Musical Theatre Announces 2011-2012 Season

Minneapolis Musical Theatre has announced selections for its 2011-2012 season.

First up, MMT will team with The Producing House to present the Midwest premiere of Fantasy Football: The Musical? (September 15-October 22). Featuring book, music and lyrics by David Ingber, it tells a story about growing up, friendship and the idea that “everybody needs a fantasy, once in a while.”

Next up will be Bat Boy: The Musical (October 28-November 13), featuring story and book by Keythe Farley and Brian Flemming with music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe. Steven Meerdink will direct, with musical direction by Kevin Hansen. This musical horror spoof is based on a story in The Weekly World News about a half boy/half bat creature.

MMT cofounders Steven Meerdink and Kevin Hansen will star in the area premiere of The Story of My Life (March 9-25), featuring book by Brian Hill, with music and lyrics by Neil Bartram. Christine Karki will direct, with musical direction by Lori Maxwell. The show tells the touching and often humorous story of two childhood friends and how their relationship profoundly defined their lives.

The season will conclude with the musical comedy Xanadu (June 8-24), based on the Universal Pictures film and featuring book by Douglas Carter Bean with music and lyrics by Jeff Lynne. Steven Meerdink will direct, with musical direction by Lori Maxwell. This hilarious, roller skating, musical adventure follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens and falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny.
