The Guthrie Theater has announced full cast and creative team information for the U.S. premiere of Brian Friel’s The Home Place, which will run September 22-November 25, with an official opening on September 28.

Set during the summer of 1878 in Donegal, Ireland, the production takes place during the early days of Ireland’s “Home Rule” movement. Dr. Richard Gore arrives to conduct scientific inquiries regarding the indigenous Irish: by measuring their bodies he hopes to crack their genetic code and establish their (presumably inferior) place in the natural order. The scientific exercises inflame an already volatile social moment.

The show will star Simon Jones as Christopher Gore, a well-meaning English landlord, and Michael Bakkensen as his son, David. Richard S. Iglewski plays Gore with Sarah Agnew as Margaret O’Donnell, a local woman and the object of affection for both Christopher and David.

The cast will also include Matthew Amendt, Virginia S. Burke, Maggie Chestovich, Charles Keating, Steve Lewis, Juliet Paulson, Samuel Finnegan Pearson, James Ramlet, and Scarlett Thompson.

Joe Dowling will direct. The creative team will include Frank Hallinan Flood (set design), Monica Frawley (costumes), Matthew Reinert (lighting), and Reid Rejsa (sound).
