A First Look at Pride and Prejudice at the Guthrie Theater

Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy act out their classic romance this summer on the stage of Minneapolis/St. Paul’s Guthrie Theater.

On July 12, Simon Reade’s stage adaptation of the classic Jane Austen novel Pride and Prejudice opened at Minneapolis/St. Paul’s renowned Guthrie Theater, one of five regional houses currently celebrating its 50th anniversary. The production will continue its run through August 31.

Pride and Prejudice, described as a “witty comedy of manners,” follows the five Bennet daughters as they search for suitable husbands. Directed by Guthrie Artistic Director Joe Dowling, the production features Ashley Rose Montondo (Charley’s Aunt, the Guthrie) and Mad Men star Vincent Kartheiser as the famous literary pair of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy.

The cast also features Ivy Beech (Macbeth, Shakespeare’s Globe) as Miss Kitty Bennet/Miss Annabel de Bourgh; J.C. Cutler (A Christmas Carol, the Guthrie) as Sir William Lucas/Mr. Reynolds; Laura Esping (Tales from Hollywood, the Guthrie) as Miss Charlotte Lucas; Hugh Kennedy (The Primrose Path, the Guthrie) as Mr. Charles Bingley; Aeysha Kinnunen (The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Minnesota Centennial Showboat) as Miss Lydia Bennet; Juan Rivera Lebron (The Winter’s Tale, the Guthrie) as Mr. George Wickham; Kris L. Nelson (Tales from Hollywood, the Guthrie) as Mr. William Collins; Thallis Santesteban (Charley’s Aunt, the Guthrie) as Miss Mary Bennet/Miss Georgiana Darcy; Anna Sundberg (Tales from Hollywood, the Guthrie) as Miss Caroline Bingley; Peter Thomson (Roman Holiday, the Guthrie) as Mr. Bennet; Suzanne Warmanen (A Christmas Carol, the Guthrie) as Mrs. Bennet; Christine Weber (A Christmas Carol, the Guthrie) as Miss Jane Bennet; and Sally Wingert (La Bête, Broadway/West End) as Lady Catherine de Bourgh/Mrs. Gardiner.

The creative team includes Alexander Dodge (set design), Mathew J. LeFebvre (costume design), Philip S. Rosenberg (lighting design), and Scott W. Edwards (sound design).
