Minneapolis Musical Theatre Announces 2008-2009 Season

The Minneapolis Musical Theatre (MMT) has announced its 2008-2009 season which will open in MMT’s new home at the Illusion Theater on the 8th floor of the Hennepin Center for the Arts in downtown Minneapolis. MMT’s current production of The Robber Bridegroom, June 6-29 will mark its final production at Hennepin Stages, its home since 2002.

The new season will open with Bright Lights, Big City, October 10-26, a contemporary rock musical based on Jay McInerney’s 1984 best selling novel with book, music and lyrics by Paul Scott Goodman. The Secret Garden will follow, March 13-29, with the story of a young girl who must move to England to live with her uncle after the death of her parents in India. Adapted from the book by Frances Hodgson Burnett, it features music by Lucy Simon, and book and lyrics by Marsha Norman.

The season will close with Zanna, Don’t!, June 5-21, hip musical fairy tale about a matchmaking teen who turns relationships upside down, challenges our point of view, and changes the world. With music by Tim Acito, and book and lyrics by Tim Acito and Alexander Dinelaris, this musical received several Drama Desk, Lucille Lortel, and Outer Critics Circle nominations.
