The Jungle Theater has announced the addition of Harold Pinter's classic dark comedy The Birthday Party to its 2012 season. Joel Sass will direct the play at the Lyn-Lake theater in Minneapolis, April 6-May 13.

The play tells the tale of Stanley Webber, the only lodger in a shabby English boarding house who senses danger when two mysterious strangers arrive on a day that his landlady insists is his birthday.

The cast will include Stephen Cartmell (Stanley), Katie Guentzel (LuLu), Richard Ooms (Petey), Tony Pappenfus (Goldberg), Marty Ruben (McCann), and Claudia Wilkens (Meg).

The production of The Birthday Party replaces the previously announced presentation of Bruce Norris' The Pain and the Itch, which has been cancelled, due to what the Jungle's artistic director Bain Boehlke describes in a statement as "unexpected conflicts in the schedules of cast members."
