As the story unfolds, Jack wants to marry Gwendolyn but must prove his parentage to her mother, Lady Bracknell. This proves difficult, as he was abandoned in a handbag in Victoria Station. Gwendolyn's cousin, Algernon, loves Cecily, who happens to be Jack's ward. Cecily and Gwendolyn are, however, both in love with Earnest….whom they have never met, because he doesn't exist. A blissfully merry melee of misdirection and misunderstandings, this masterpiece will leave you helpless with laughter.
