WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Readings from the play by actors Sir Derek Jacobi, and Richard Clifford, along with performances by baritone Robert McDonald and renowned countertenor David Daniels, who will also sing a selection of Handel arias join the Folger Consort and a baroque orchestra for a special performance of music from, and inspired by The Tempest and the sea. Dramatic readings from Shakespeare's 1610 play - perhaps his most musical - will be complemented by settings of the play's songs from the 17th century, and the dramatic orchestral music by Matthew Locke composed for the Davenant and Dryden Tempest revival first staged in 1674. Richard Clifford directs.
