Bakersfield Mist Descends on Olney Theatre Center
Performances of Bakersfield Mist begin tonight at Olney Theatre Center.
Maude is down on her luck. She lives in a trailer park and has just been fired from her bartending job. Things get even worse when she buys a painting from a thrift store as a gift for her friend, and the gift is rejected. When it turns out that the painting may be a lost Jackson Pollock, however, it seems like fate may finally be smiling on Maude. When world-famous curator Lionel Percy arrives at Maude’s trailer to determine if the painting is the real deal, a clash of cultures ensues, in which the "average Joe" may finally get one over on those "East Coast elites."
John Vreeke helms the show, which was written by Stephen Sachs. The cast features Donna Migliaccio as Maude and Michael Russotto as Lionel Percy.
"I love Stephen Sachs’ hilarious look at a unique American culture clash: the East Coast elites versus the average Joe," said artistic director Jason Loewith. "And when you’ve got two of my favorite actors — Donna Migliaccio and Michael Russotto — slugging it out, you’re in for 90 minutes of nonstop fun."
The creative team includes Daniel Ettinger (set design), Seth Gilbert (costume design), Colin K. Bills (lighting design), Chris Baine (sound design), and Trevor Riley (stage manager).
Performances will run through June 12.
