Actors Theatre of Louisville Announces 2012-2013 Season

Actors Theatre of Louisville has announced the productions set for 2012-2013, which will be artistic director Les Waters’ inaugural season with the company.

The season will kick off with Shakespeare’s famous love story Romeo and Juliet (September 4-26), directed by Louisville native Tony Speciale. Next, Waters will helm his first production as artistic director, Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey into Night (October 9-28). Then, the theater will present True West (November 13-December 9), Sam Shepard’s dark comedy about two brothers from different worlds. In the new year, Matthew Lopez’s The Whipping Man (January 8-February 2) will examine the topics of redemption and regret through the lens of the Civil War. The season will come to a close with Todd Almond and Matthew Sweet’s rock musical Girlfriend (January 29-February 17), a celebration of young love.

From February 27-April 7, Actors Theatre will present the 37th Annual Humana Festival of New American Plays. The Humana Festival is an opportunity to see groundbreaking new work by the American theater’s talented writers.

The theater’s special holiday offerings will include A Christmas Carol (December 6-23), A Christmas Story (November 7-25), and for Halloween, Dracula (September 14-October 31).
