Synopsis

The performance originally scheduled for May 6 has been canceled. A June performance will be scheduled shortly.

Sandy Wolshin takes the audience on a journey through her life from her childhood days with her Russian/gypsy mother and Jewish/atheist father, to her cheerleading days as an NFL Raider's Cheerleader, then on to her late-nights in stand-up comedy to studying Judaism. Sandy learned how to entertain at a very young age. Her mother was a Russian flamenco dancer with a talent for the castanets and her father was a Russian Jew who had a hypnotic act in the Borscht belt, where he opened for comics like Jackie Vernon.

Though Sandy's parents were passionately in love, their religious backgrounds clashed and at times caused major dissension, including an episode where all the children ended separated from their parents.

After her father's death, while signing autographs at Pep Boys in East L.A. wearing her Raiderette uniform -- halter top, boots, and hot pants, Sandy has a spiritual epiphany. Feeling very connected to the Jewish faith but not knowing anything about Judaism, Sandy embarks on a path of seeking and learning about this rich culture. She goes from Raiderette to Jewette!

Review: Rabbi and the Cheerleader by Sandy Wolshin by swolshin

Sandy Wolshins show is all one big lie and I know I am her sister. She is not telling the family story as it really is and is just trying to get you to feel sorry for her as she did with my parents when they were alive. The truth is she is a fake and is hurting her siblings who are still mourning thier mothers death. My mother was a truely wonderful loving person who Sandy would call up all the time to run the show by her. But the truth is my monther would not tell her how hurtful it is that she is the butt of all her jokes and lies. Well the story is Sandy is suffering from narsatistic personality and she is only happy when she can make fun of her loving parents and siblings. The show is not about her but about poor me, Sandy, if you cry she is happy. She spent 3 hours telling us how funny she is and we told her you are not funny your show is depressing and it is demeaning our family. Why would any godly religious person see a show of women who boast about being a cheerleader and brags about it for an hour and then puts down her father and mother that is dead? Only a real selfish person would do that and that is what Sandy is a selfish person who uses people to get her way. Her older sister Susan and siblings
