WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

A surrealistic examination of the archetypical Black man's mind, The Aboriginal Treatment Center reaches into the depths of the African-American experience to uncover the layers of consciousness and roles that approximate his existence in this country. The play challenges many of the audience's expectations by using hypnotic rhythms, percussive imagery, poetry and dance to plumb the depths of this experience. The lead character, Tyrone Smith, is forced to see himself through a series of metaphorical realities created by Playwright Ron Allen, who views freedom in America as an abstract idea, "A fashionable sculpted ideal."

Director Jemal McNeil has assembled a plethora of awards and accomplishments since he began working professionally at age twelve. Recognized for his skill as an actor, director and playwright, McNeil has attracted a cast of talented veterans to accompany him on the ArtShare stage. The cast includes COLSAC Theatre's Lamont Coleman, Erinn Anova, Lynne Conner and Dee Freeman. They are supported by Nikki Brown as Assistant Director and Choreographer.

In addition to the regular schedule, a performance is arranged for 12:00pm on Sunday, February 18.
