WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Motown's Big Three poets export top of the line percussive imagery, exotic word flavors and jazz with heart and spirit at a performance reading called Rhythm In The Head: Jazz/Poetry In L.A.. Meet the legendary poet, activist and author of Guitar Army, John Sinclair, award winning poet/playwright Ron Allen, and author/ Professor of English and Labor, M.L. Liebler. They are accompanied by the Conscious Mind Band.

These old friends were part of the famous Detroit Jazz/arts community for many years but are performing together for the first time in Los Angeles. Arts and politics firebrand, Sinclair has been preaching the power of blues and jazz the world over and returns to L.A. from Amsterdam. The prolific Allen moved to L.A. from Detroit a year ago because the climate proved conducive to producing his many Theatre Of The Absurd plays. Professor Liebler is coming from Detroit where he teaches at Wayne State University and is Director of Ridgeway Press. They invite the audience to dive beneath the surface of language and hypnotic rhythms to dance with their own undiscovered truth. They perform to the jazz innovations of the Conscious Mind Band, a group organized by Ron Allen that consists of Al Robinson on keyboard, Doran Belfild on drums and Greg Roberson on bass.

Sinclair, Allen and Liebler have published a library of books, CDs, and plays. Sinclair's most recent Guitar Army is being released this month in L.A., Allen's Aboriginal Treatment Center was produced February 3 at Art Share in L.A. and his most recent CD is Painted Mind Code. Liebler's most recent book is Rain: New and Selected Poems.
