WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Edgar Allan Poe lives and breathes, live on stage, in the performance of Jeffrey Combs in Nevermore. The rebel and the poet who became a public sensation in his own lifetime is given flesh and blood anew.
Poe struggled through much of his career. Defying literary convention, he explored some of the darkest recesses of the human soul. He was a Southern writer offending the literary establishment of New England, attacking the wealthy and privileged Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (whose work he despised) , and finding himself a popular audience.
Nevermore finds Poe at a critical juncture, grieving over the loss of his young wife, Virginia; wooing a new love, the poet and critic Sarah Helen Whitman; and trying to keep heart and soul together while awash in alcohol. Dennis Paoli has based his script on Poe's own notes, letters and writings as well as contemporary accounts of his appearances. In Combs' dazzling performance, you'll experience Poe's writings like "The Bells" as you've never previously imagined them.
