WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Weddington Street Productions proudly presents Debbie Reynolds: An Evening of Music and Comedy, starring the legendary Debbie Reynolds with Musical Director Joey Singer. The award-winning actress whose career spans six decades, brings her one-woman show to the historic El Portal Theatre.
This is the same Debbie Reynolds who grew up in Burbank and rode her bicycle to the El Portal Movie Palace at 15 to see the double-features, cartoons and serials of the day. One year later, she would be starring in the movies at MGM. This is the same Debbie Reynolds who was named "Miss Burbank" in 1948, was a cheerleader for John Burroughs High School, and who went on to Singin' in the Rain fame, starring Donald O'Connor and Gene Kelly, to Tammy, to the Oscar-nominated The Unsinkable Molly Brown, and another 25 films.
She has more awards and accolades than any star in show business -- two Walk of Fame Stars (not one!) on Hollywood Blvd. -- and the same Debbie Reynolds who, with her showbiz partner Ruta Lee, has raised millions of dollars for "The Thalian's" Charity for the past 50 years.
And this is the same Debbie Reynolds who, in the late 70's, established DR Studios right in North Hollywood on Lankershim Blvd., for dance and theatre rehearsals and auditions. DR Studios continues to launch and rehearse many of today's major musicals, concert tours, and TV specials. Just like "Superwoman," Debbie is here, there and everywhere! This year, in three months alone, she has traveled to Australia, Florida, Texas, Atlantic City, Washington, Chicago, and more. Variety (magazine) says this about Debbie Reynolds in concert: "The missing ingredient these days is showmanship. Debbie displays bundles of it -- she does not hold back. She doesn't cheat an audience -- she wouldn't even think of doing so!"

Veteran actor-singer Debbie Reynolds may be one of the few remaining stars groomed in Hollywood's studio-system heyday of the 1950s, but as she proves in
Debbie Reynolds: An Evening of Music and Comedy, her glittering revue at the El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood, this consummate entertainer has lost none of her sharp-as-a-pistol wit, buoyant stage presence, and old-style glamour. Perhaps best of all, she exudes a warmth that shines brighter than a multi-megawatt marquee.
The 76-years-young star seems to have 1,001 self-deprecating jokes about old age up her sleeve. With tongue firmly in cheek, she takes on the persona of a ditsy aging starlet who doesn't know how to pronounce -- let a[...]
