Charles Davis, Irish Character Actor and One-Time Og in Finian’s Rainbow, Dies at 84

Charles Davis, who performed the role of Og in the original production of Finian’s Rainbow and the show’s national tour, has died, according to a report in Variety. He was 84.

The Irish-born actor appeared in numerous plays at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin before arriving in New York for his Broadway debut in Finian’s. After his time with the show, he moved to Hollywood and appeared in films such as The Desert Rats, Hong Kong Story, The Wreck of the Mary Deare, and Star.

On television, he was seen in such series as The Twilight Zone, Perry Mason,Leave It To Beaver, and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. As a writer, he wrote for television shows such as Death Valley Days, Have Gun Will Travel and The Bold Ones. Davis also served as director and producer of several feature films.

He is survived by his wife, actress Marilyn O’Connor; daughter, singer and actress Maripat Davis; and a son.
