Laguna Playhouse Announces Downsizing Measures

By Andy Propst • Mar 12, 2010 • Los Angeles

The Laguna Playhouse has begun the process of permanently downsizing its operations, according to the Orange County Register.

The cost-saving measures are effective immediately and include moving out of a leased space in Laguna Hills, which the company has used for the construction of scenery, rehearsals, telemarketing activities, and some classroom instruction. In addition, four full-time staff members have been laid off and several others have been furloughed, but will be used on a job-by-job basis.

These downsizing steps come less than a year after the playhouse sold an office complex that was to have been converted into a second theater space for the company.

There are no plans to move out of or alter the playhouse's present mainstage facility, the Moulton Theatre, and the company is expected to announce a season of five productions -- down from seven a few years ago -- next month.
