WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Jason Alexander and Martin Short star in the Los Angeles production of The Producers, the new Mel Brooks musical. Based on Mel Brooks' Academy Award-winning 1968 film of the same name, the musical tells the story of down-on-his-luck theatrical producer Max Bialystock (Alexander) and Leo Bloom (Short), a mousy accountant. Together they hatch the ultimate scam: raise more money than you need for a sure-fire Broadway flop and pocket the difference. Their "sure-fire" theatrical fiasco?... None other than the musical Springtime for Hitler.

Though it's an entertaining outing filled with laughs, Brooks's stage musical version of his movie classic -- co-written with Thomas Meehan -- feels a bit hollow and forced.
Max Bialystock (Jason Alexander) is the laughingstock of the Great White Way. He has just produced the latest in his long line of flops, Funny Boy, [...]
