WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
The play is based on the 1992 film of the same name, which tells the story of aspiring disco lounge singer and diva Deloris Van Cartier, who is struggling to work her way to the top in 1970s Philadelphia. Deloris falls in love with a tough, and very married, gangster named Curtis. After witnessing him commit a murder, Deloris ends up in hiding under police protection in a convent whose parish has fallen on hard times. Though the convent lifestyle doesn't agree with her at first, Deloris finds her calling leading the choir, where she breathes new life into the dusty order, while discovering a sisterhood she's never dreamed possible.
