Merrily We Roll Along's structure is controversial: it moves backwards to chronicle the bittersweet lives and loves of Mary, Frank and Charley, three life-long friends who make their way in show business. The show's score is not: it is one of the finest of all the 1980's musicals, with a thrilling collection of songs, including "Old Friends," "Not a Day Goes By," "Our Time," and "Good Thing Going."
